This will hopefully mean that US telephone cables need no longer be stripped using a bayonet as at Bastogne Breakout. One less H&S form!

I have a small skewer hidden in the collar of my jumping jacket, and a razorblade in my gaiter, as well as my knife.

Amazing Tommy look Komrade, well jealous of the physique, I just look like Captain Mainwaring in the british uniform!

I remember someone saying the British WW2 battle dress was based on contempory Winter Sportsmen clothing like skiers and what not, is that true?

Probably the reason porky's like myself look so wrong in it, you need the athletic build to make it look good!

yes totally true.

It was based around the very popular baggy trousers and short jacket worn by skiers at the time.

In the later 30s BD and 37 pattern webbing was streets ahead of every other armies kit, used less fabric and was more practical (consider the germans were wearing uniforms that hadnt changed much since 1914 or earlier, the russians were wearing kit made in the tsarist era and the americans were wearing pre wwi webbing).

The whole outfit (including webbing) was aimed at being worn by a mechanised army that would spend a lot of time on motor transport (again britain had one of the worlds few mechanised armies, the germans were 85 per cent horse drawn) and sitting down... consequently little of the kit was designed to hang below the hips and the blouse was short for the same reasons.

For 1937 it was *very* fashionable. It just looks odd now as fashions have changed and people dont wear their trousers up to their ribs anymore.

Its an airsoft conversion, using a AK mech box and AK drum mag internals, various other bits also. the pistol grip was widened to accomadate the motor from the mech box.

I'm no great academic on British kit...but I'm fairly sure you can't be a medic and carry a Sten Gun.
